What to Expect at a Driving School
Before you begin driving, you should take driver’s education classes, which are also commonly known as driver’s ed. These classes will teach you the rules of driving and how to safely drive on public roads. In addition, you can choose between different types of classes, which include Pre-licensing courses and On-road instruction. After you have completed driver’s education, you can get your driver’s license and drive safely on the road.
What is driver’s education? Driving lessons are also known as driver’s ed, driver’s tuition, or driving classes. It is a formal class or program that prepares new drivers to safely operate a vehicle. The purpose of driver’s education classes is to supplement the government-printed driving manual. Students receive in-car instruction in order to practice driving on the road with an instructor. Dual controls allow the student to use pedals on the passenger side of the vehicle. The course typically begins when a student is 16 years old, although laws vary from state to state. Students who are under 18 years old are not eligible for driver’s education classes.
The New York State DMV requires students to complete a 5-hour classroom pre-licensing course before they can get their license.
